PROJECT OVERVIEW:

According to Sami el-Raghby, Chairman & Managing Director of CENTAMIN EGYPT LTD., his company has discovered what it considers to be potentially one of the largest gold mines in the world. The property, known as the Sukari concession, is located in the Eastern Desert of Egypt.

The company is now said to be considering 2 scenarios for the development of Sukari. One is to develop the project in 2 or 3 stages. The first stage would be a 2 million ton per year (t/y) operation enabling the production of 120,000 oz of gold. This would then be upgraded as more resources are converted into reserves to a 10 million t/y operation yielding 600,000 oz of gold per annum. The second scenario is to increase the drilling capacity of the company and establish a resource base of over 5 million ounces and develop the property in one stage.

In so doing, the development project is expected to require an investment of $700,000,000 over a 10-year period.

CENTAMIN EGYPT is the only listed mineral company exploring for gold and base metals in Egypt with a mining concession issued under an Act of the Egyptian Parliament covering approximately 4,500 kms of what is claimed to be highly prospective ground. The company is now gearing-up to become a large producer of gold in the Egyptian Pharaonic goldfields.
